Motorbike assembling workshop for the dead

VietNamNet Bridge – Paper-made expensive motorbikes for the dead are assembled at Song Ho village in Thuan Thanh district, Hanoi’s neighboring province of Bac Ninh.

This is one of the best-selling products for this year’s Buddhist holiday
(on the 15th of the 7th month of lunar calendar).

The price for these motorbikes, which imitate Japanese Honda scooter – a luxurious
motorcycle in Vietnam, is on the rise. A “worker” at the Hau Thoa enterprise
tells VietNamNet that the price for SH motorbikes will rise on a daily basis
from now to the 10th of the 7th month of lunar calendar.

The wholesale prices for this motorbike are from VND60,000/unit for
small-sized products to VND100,000 for medium-sized products and up
to several hundreds of VND for big-sized ones. Paper-made motorbikes
with unique colors are more expensive.

The frame of these vehicles is made by bamboo.

An experienced worker can “manufacture” one motorbike per 30 minutes.

Motorbikes are covered by plastic bags.

This is a special product because it is big and has different color from others.

LCD screens, fridges and TV sets are also produced for the Buddhist holiday, the day for the dead.

Paper-made villas.

Votive-paper traders are flocking to Song Ho village.

At a votive-paper stall in Song Ho village, all products are fake, only this strongbox is real.
